I love coconut oil!

This is my new favorite health food.   It’s so versatile.  What other food can you cook with, eat and then rub on your skin?  The health benefits are impressive.  They include hair care, skin care, stress relief, cholesterol level maintenance, weight loss, boosted immune system, proper digestion and regulated metabolism. It also provides relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV, and cancer, while helping to improve dental quality and bone strength.

The benefits of this oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and their respective properties, such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-fungal, antibacterial and soothing qualities.

I’ve used it on my skin with great results.  Recently, I tried a new anti aging night cream which left a burn around my mouth.  The area was very sore and the only thing that didn’t irritate it further was coconut oil.  In fact once I started applying the oil the area healed very quickly.

I also cook with it.  It’s not an oil that works well on high heat but if I’m stir frying vegetables I use it.  You can also bake with it and use it as a spread instead of butter.  The flavor is amazing.

If you’re looking for a good brand I recommend unrefined versus refined and I always buy organic.  Costco sells a good one.   It’s a large jar but the shelf life is 2 years.
